Prescriptions? Believe it or not, nearly every pill maker has a program to give medicine away to individuals who are unemployed and have no health insurance. It's part of the deal the pharmaceutical companies made with the government. They key often is held in your doctor's hands. The doctor must fill out forms requesting free medication for you. If the doctor doesn't have the forms (most don't bother), call the drug company who makes your medicine and ask them to send you the required forms. Take the forms to your doctor. Doctors may also give samples of medications until you can make other arrangements.

Need emergency medication, help with utilities, food, or other short-term necessities? Call 211 from any telephone. Not 911, but 211. Tell the operator what you need and they will try to find some organization that will help you right away. Alabama does participate in this 211 program. It works!
